  • Condition: The condition of this carving is magnificant. She stands upon a rosewood base. Rosewood is significant because of the ethnic use of rosewood for it's healing properties. She stands approximately 13.5 inches tall. The figure is made of a hardwood that looks to be maple to me. This is a very old carving I have not seen such an intricate carving before. It's totally hand carved because of the knife marks that can be seen in the deep recesses of the carving. Whomever carved this piece was a master at the craft.

    Description

    This is a hand carved solid wood figure.  It's made of a very dense hardwood that I believe to be Asian maple. Asian maple is very comparable to hard rock maple in the US.  The base is made of a beautiful clear grained rosewood. This piece is in perfect conditon.  There are no cracks, repairs, and nothing I can see but perfection.  I am a lifetime woodworker (not a tried and true carver) but I have not seen such wonderful and detailed craftsmanship as is exhibited in this piece in a very long time. It's a treasure and I hope someone purchases it who will treasure the simple beauty of this carving as well as the stuning crastsmanship that was required to make it.
