Last May, like thousands of other
    custom bike nuts, Tom McMullen
loaded examples of the custom art
into his van and started for Laconia,
    New Hampshire. The Laconia race,
now held at Loudon a few miles to

In the morning the van with its
precious cargo was gone. It was found
a week later submerged in a local
    reservoir, minus the two scooters,
    some expensive Nikon camera equip-...
