Description
Anyone who remembers staying in Ocean City, MD in the mid-1960's or anyone interested in the history of the resort will find this little booklet quite fascinating.Issued by the Caine Real Estate company for the 1965 season, the booklet is 76 pages long and filled with photos of apartments and private homes that were available for rent or, in some cases, for sale. Can you believe that in the pre-season of May and June, some places could be rented for or per week? Or that many in peak season only averaged around 0 for the week? Also note that fraternity and sorority groups were unwelcome renters as were unmarried groups.
This real estate company was also the developer for Caine Keys, an area of Ocean City that exists to this day. Back in 1965, you had to commit to building a house that cost a minimum of ,000. There are six pages devoted to Caine Keys.
There are also seven pages devoted to rental properties in Fenwick Island, DE.
This little booklet has one major condition issue which can be seen in the last photo. The front and back covers are detached from the rest of the booklet, which is complete. Most likely this is due to the fact that the staples holding the booklet together have rusted. Otherwise, it's in great shape with clean pages and no tears or creases. The darker left side of the cover and pages in my photos is due to shadowing where I took the photos. The cover and pages are uniform in tone when you see them in person.
This is a great trip down Memory Lane. Maybe you'll even recognize a house or apartment your family owned or rented back in the day.
